FIELD STUDY OF THE ROLE OF AGRICULTURAL COOPERATIVE IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF THE AGRICULTURAL SECTOR IN FAYOUM GOVERNORATE

Abstract

Due to the important role that the agricultural cooperatives can play in
the social and economic development, this study aims at recognizing the role of
the agricultural cooperatives in the agricultural development in Fayoum


governorate. The study, also, aims at recognizing the challenges of the
agricultural cooperatives sector and suggests the suitable solutions for them so
that they can develop the performance and achieve their goals.
The results obtained from the field study and the questionnaire.
Followed are the main results obtained. the marketing of the members’ produce.
Obviously the agricultural cooperatives don’t play any role in this issue as
100% of the members and board members stated. The same is applied for the
financial services that cooperatives suppose to offer for their members. As for
offering agricultural mechanization for the member, the majority of all
categories stated that the cooperatives are not offering this kind of services
anymore except for few areas. That is mainly because of the widespread of
these kinds of machines between farmers as a private investment.
A very important issue in this study is the challenges facing the
agricultural cooperatives. Following are the most important challenges. 60% of
the managers stated that the financial problems is the most important where
45% of the board members stated the high prices of the services offered by the
cooperatives is the most challenging problem. 70% of the members ensured the
board members’ point of view.
A last concept to be discussed is the development of the agricultural
cooperatives. About 63% and 58% of the board members believe that lowering
production inputs’ prices and allow credit selling and the availability of funds
are the high priority solutions for developing cooperatives. The members, also,
agree to the board members’ point of view with regard to the development of
the cooperatives.
