Requirements for Developing Handicrafts for Bedouin Women in North Sinai Governorate

Abstract

The research aimed to identify the requirements for the development of Bedouin women’s handicrafts related to training requirements, financing requirements, production requirements, marketing requirements, and social and cultural requirements;to determine the significance of the relationship between the characteristics of the respondents and the degree of their knowledge and the degree of importance of those requirements; and finally to identify the obstacles facing the development Handicrafts in North Sinai. The research was conducted on 172 female respondents from three civil society development associations in the Bir al-Abd district, and data was collected during the months of February and March 2024.
Results

The most important requirements for developing handicrafts are establishing handicraft training centers in villages, providing the necessary funding for these centers, and holding exhibitions to market handicraft products.
The percentage of female respondents in the three categories of knowledge level of the requirements for developing handicrafts was close, reaching 34.3% for low, 32.6% for medium, and 33.1% for high.
An increase in the percentage of female respondents in the low-level category of the importance of requirements for developing handicrafts, reaching 45.3% compared to 28.5% in the high-level importance category of the importance of requirements.
The most important problems facing handicrafts are the difficulty of obtaining financing, the weak demand for purchasing handicraft products, their high prices, and the difficulty of training in handicraft work.
The most important proposals are to establish craft training centers and open exhibitions to market craft products.
