Quality of extension service provided to fig farmers in Matrouh Governorate

Abstract

The research was aimed to identify the point of view for both the fig growers and extension work staff concerning the quality of agricultural extension service in the field of agricultural technical operations in terms of degree of availability benefit and satisfaction of such service and to determine the significant differences between them.
This research was conducted in Matrouh Governorate within the agricultural communities where fig cultivation is concentrated, in Ras al-Hikma and Al Garawala (Matrouh Destrict), and el Hammamal and Al Garawala (al-Hammam Destrict). Research data were collected using two questionnaire forms via personal interviews of a regular randomized sample selected according to the Krejci and Morgan equation. The sample comprised 329 farmers' respondents representing 14.35% of them, and 93 agricultural extension staff respondents representing 75.61% of them, during July and August 2023. The data were presented and statistically analyzed using the Percentages, the Replicates' tabular presentation with and relative correspondence coefficient.
      The most important results of the research were as follows:
1- Both of fig growers and the agricultural extension work mentioned that the agricultural extension service in the field of agricultural technical operations was of a high level of quality with 25.8 % and 39.8% of moderate quality level of 30.7% and 31. 2%, and of a low-quality level of 43.5% and 29.0%, respectively.
2- The eight agricultural technical practices in the research area were arranged based on respondents ' viewpoint from the two groups in terms of the quality level of agricultural extension service for the included thirty fives items came as follows: the activities related land preparation for farming ranked first, whereas the activities related to manufacturing processes came last.
3- There were significant differences between respondents' viewpoint from the two groups regarding the level of quality of the agricultural extension service in the field of technical operations for growing figs in the research area according to the calculated chi2 value which came to 8.65 was bigger than its tabulated counterpart which amounted to 5.99, at 2 degrees of freedom and a significant level of 0.05.
