The behavior of fishermen towards the sustainable use of the resources of lake qarun in Fayoum Governprate

Abstract

 This study mainly aimed to identify the behavior of fishermen towards the sustainable use of the resources of Lake Qarun, by achieving the following sub-objectives: Identifying the level of utilization of the extension services provided in the field of sustainable development of Lake Qarun, and identifying the level of knowledge of the respondents about the sustainable use of the lake resources. Determining the level of their attitudes towards practices related to the sustainable use of lake resources, determining the level of their implementation of practices relating to the sustainable use of lake resources, identifying the factors affecting the respondents’ behavior towards the sustainable use of Lake Qarun resources, and finally identifying the problems facing the respondents regarding the sustainable use of lake resources and their suggestions to address them.                        
    The comprehensiveness of this study was represented in the total number of fishermen registered in the lists of the cooperative association for fishermen in the village of Shakshuk in Fayoum governorate, where their number is (605) fishermen, and since it was difficult to collect research data from the total number of fishermen, especially in light of the spread of their places of residence on a large scale. A wide geography, so it was seen choosing a regular random sample of them, and the strength of this sample, according to the equation of Kergis and Morgan, reached 320 fishermen.                                                          
        The results showed that 62.6 percent of the respondents had a low level of knowledge of recommendations for the sustainable use of lake resources, while only 10 percent of the respondents had a high level of knowledge of recommendations for sustainable use, and it became clear that 73.5% of the respondents had a low tendency towards the sustainable use of lake resources. As for the positive trend category, it represents about 6.5% of the total respondents in the research sample, and with regard to the level of respondents' implementation of the practices of the safe use of lake resources, it became clear that about 66.5% of the total respondents had a low level of implementation of sustainable use practices of lake resources.
