Abstract

Fava beans is considered the first leguminous crop in Egypt. the research problem is the decline in the areas planted with Fava beans in Egypt, statistics indicate a decline in the area from about 2715 thousand acres in 2000 to about 175,4 thousand acres in 2019, and the researsh aims to study an economic efficiency of the Faba bean crop in Egypt by studying the current situation of production, consumption and economic indicators and estimating the efficiency of the use of economic resources in the Fava bean production farms in the research sample, the technical, the distribution and the economic efficiency for the resources used in the production of Fava beans in the cases of stability and change of capacity, using the data envelop analysis method. It was found that the average technical efficiency in the case of constant capacity reached about 81%, 92% and 98% for the three categories respectively. With regard to distributive efficiency, it was found that its average for the three tenure categories in case the return to capacity is stable, amounted to about 87%, 42% and 95%. While, it was in the case of a change in return to capacity is about 95%, 95% and 97% as for the economic efficiency, it was found that the average of the three categories in the first case amounted to about 74% 86% and 91% respectively, while in the case of a change in return to capacity amounted to about 96% ,94% and 95%.
