Abstract

Palm trees are considered the most important economical trees which
have high nutritional values. Egypt produces about 20.5% of the total world
dates production (2007) and Fayoum Governorate represented a part from the
total production of Egypt. It has been observed that the total production of
palm dates has been considerably decreased. Consequently, by studying the
date's production and marketing, some results have been clarified. The
obtained results revealed that the Sewi variety was the highest in the
economical efficiency, which it recorded to 8.5 for the farmer according to
the cost/Benefit ratio measure in the study sample. However, it was found to
be; 7.1, 4.4 and 10.8 in cases of direct selling in the market, selling to the
merchands and storage, respectively, followed by Amhat and Baldi varieties,
and then by Zaghlol variety (i.e., 0.96). Thus, Zaghlol variety represents the
lowest economical efficiency for the palm dates in the farms and also for the
production for one palm date tree.
Accordingly, the study recommends the extention in Sewi variety
planting and growing, more efficient role of the extension department,
replacement and renewing the old palm dates farms and pests and insects
control. In addition to grow good quality varieties with subsidizing industries
them, solving the marketing problems and development the secondary
products of palm trees from their branches and leaves.
