Abstract
This study aims to identify the actual state of drying Medical and
Aromatic Ornamental Projects in Beni-Suef. The study pointed out the
primitive methods in which the drying process can be carried out, and about
11.8% of the drying areas are on the roofs of houses. The study illustrated that
100% of the Parsley and Dill area all over Egypt was grown only Beni-Suef
during the period 2004-2008. In addition, 40.3% of the Basil area, 22 % of the
worm wood area, 26.8% of Spearmint were grown in Beni-Suef during the
same period. Also the row material cost ranges from 64.3 % to 93.8 %of the
total cost of the dried ton, and the average cost per ton were L.E 4.18
thousand, L.E 4.07 and L.E 3.91 thousands for the three kinds of Parsley.The
average cost per ton were L.E 4.26 thousand, L.E 3.92 and L.E 3.43 thousands
for the three kinds of dill. The average cost per ton wereL.E 5.53 thousand,
L.E 5.26 thousands for the two kinds of Basil.The average cost per ton
wereL.E 12.53 thousand, L.E 12.17 and L.E 12.63 thousands for the three
kinds of Worm Wood. The average cost per ton wereL.E 5 thousand, L.E 4.9
and L.E 4.6 thousands for the three kinds of Spearmint.
Results,the net profit for the dried ton was L.E 1, L.E1.5, L.E 1.8, L.E
2.5, L.E0.6 thousand for the Barsley, Dill, Basil, Worm Wood, and
Spearmint.The return rate of invested pound reached about 1.26, 1.43, 1.33,
1.20, 1.12 for the projects. The study pointed out some problems that face the
drying projects, such as: There aren’t Licences, The bad weather condations
and there aren’t marketing associations that help in selling the problem.
The study recommended, facililaty getting the licence, encouraging
investors to set up modern central station for drying in the Middle Egypt area,
as well as providing training courses for the project owners to improve their
production, and providing the extension services for those owners.
