RURAL WOMAN PARTICIPATION IN LOCAL COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT IN SOME VILLAGES – KAFR EL SHEKH GOVERNORATE

Abstract

The research aimed at determining the kind of activities which rural woman
participate in local community development, also problems and suggestions for
activating participation.
The research was conducted at three villages in sedy sallem district with a random
sample of 298 rural women. Chi square test, smiple correlation coefficient of Pearson,
and multiple regression were used for data analysing.
The research showed the following results:
- Percentages of women participation in tree planting, tidiness and illiteracy programs
were low, while it was high in cooperative activities of village services.
- The most important variables which explain the variation in rural woman
participation as a dependent variable were cosmopolitiness, leadership and informal
social participation.
- The most important problems facing rural woman participation in developing local
community were belives and traditions.
- Women suggestions for activating participation were: increasing social servies which
providing for womam, training programs for woman, and equality with men.
